Tree of Life

The Tree of Life is symbolic in many religions and cultures throughout the world. It represents family, friendship, and compassion for all living things. The female figure here is exemplified as the sacred creator of life and the symbol of unity, strength, and the grounding of the family. Life begins with her. Each colorful spiral symbolizes the human uniqueness of each of us, our diversities, and the idea that all of life on earth is interconnected.

In 2019 I had the privilege of traveling to Haiti with a group of philanthropic women who

devote their time and money to the charity Chances for Children. We traveled to several areas and observed the schools being built through this charity and the feeding program where over 5000 children are fed cooked meals three times a week.  We also visited the Women’s Empowerment programs where skills are developed, business development, and employment are addressed to help the extreme poverty-ridden families in order to help Haitian families stay together. We also visited one of many small businesses run by women who received business training and a zero-interest microloan of between $300-$1000 to establish a business. The Tree of Life represents the planting of hopes and dreams for all the families in need.  The women I met on this trip inspired me to create this artwork of hope.
